How to reload the USB & Ethernet firmware and bootstrap

If the EEPROM which stores the firmware and the bootstrap of the Ethernet and USB communication board is corrupted, either the USB would not be recognized on the PC, Ethernet won't communicate or it would cause communication loss after a period of time working. This usually happens if the PC and Delta Tau Device are not on the same ground and because the USB connects the ground on both ends, it may cause a ground loop and this will damage the chip. If the chip is damaged, the only fix would be to replace the chip which can not be done in the field and the device should be sent back for repair. It’s also possible that the EEPROM has been corrupted and no hardware damage. In this case we can fix the problem by reloading some files in to the EEPROM. We need to reload the bootstrap and firmware. Please follow these steps carefully: 1. Connect the Delta Tau product to your PC using a USB 2.0 certified cable. (PMAC Executive PRO2 Suite or Delta Tau USB Drivers should have been installed on the PC prior to connection). 2. In Windows Device Manage, under Universal Serial Bus (USB) section you should see either "Delta Tau USB 2.0 Device" or "Delta Tau USB 2.0 Device NO EEPROM". If you do, then skip to step number 10. If not follow through step 3. 3. Power down the Delta Tau product. 4. Disconnect the USB connection to the Delta Tau Controller to your computer. 5. Remove the USB/Ethernet firmware jumper. Wait until you see the power good LED turns green then insert the USB/Ethernet jumper back in its place. 8. Reconnect the USB connection to the computer. 9. The device will be recognized as Delta Tau USB 2.0 Device NO EEPROM in the windows device manager. [attachment=1290:name] 10. Make sure that all Delta Tau software are close and you no instance of PCommServer is running in the windows processes window. (You can check the running processes by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ESC) 11. [attachment=1291:name] [color=#FF0000][b]------------------------------------------------------------- IMPORTANT NOTE: Some Delta Tau products have a hardware level of extra protection against corruption of EEPROM, which has to be disabled in order to allow storing information on to EEPROM. Refer to Hardware Reference Manual of each product for specific details. Below is a list of these products and how to disable the hardware write-protection. Matt, As the table shows, there is only one firmware for UMAC CPU which carries the USB&Ethernet on-board. The other one is the ACC-54E which is a separate board connected to UMAC CPU in older versions which has a different file associated with it as shown in the table above. I hope it is clear.
